Healthy bodies – Healthy minds

SKIP IT is working alongside Support Children Pakistan and St Joseph’s Primary School in Rawalpindi. The School is located in an impoverished community where most families face severe lack of income opportunities, high unemployment rate with majority surviving of very meagre daily wage. In majority households both partners have to work to make both ends meet.

St Joseph’s, the only school based in the community of about 1000 families, struggles to cater the education needs of the children. Currently the total enrolment lists to 165 children. Majority of them come to school having just a cup of tea with a piece of left over bread from the meal the night before. With almost nothing to eat during their time in the school, the children go back to an empty house with parents still at work, the only proper meal is usually the dinner cooked by the mothers after their return from work in the evening. This results in majority of the children being not properly fed and malnourished.

Our project aims to provide the students of St. Joseph’s School a midday meal which will full fill all their basic nutritional needs. The main objective is to provide 165 children one nutritious meal every school day to contribute towards their physical growth and mental development.

Through the project we also aim towards increased daily attendance rate and a decreased dropout rate, this is reflected by the fact that highest number of children (52) are in nursery and the least (08) in class five.
