Fatima Villas Nutrition Day
Our brain requires a good amount of nutrients to function. Many essential vitamins and minerals regulate the health of the human brain. These nutrients help us in performing our daily tasks. At a growing age, children need a diet containing a balanced amount of proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. However, a lot of children all over the world do not get the diet necessary for their growth. World Vision School is located in Fatima Villas. Most of the students there come from underprivileged families who cannot afford a healthy meal at lunch during school. A food day was organized for 130 children on the 3rd of October, 2019. The plan was to give children a healthy meal. An announcement was made a day before for the children to bring their spoons and plates. This ignited excitement among the students. The food package consisted of Rice with chicken , bananas, apples and a pack of juice.
Around 1 pm the students had their lunch. They had a good time with their friends. The food was served in the classes as there is construction going on near the school. One of the students even said that she felt strong after eating the rice. While the children were eating a child was in some deep though and hadn’t touched his rice when asked why he was not eating, the reply was innocent yet it was very powerful as well. He told us that he was thinking where he could get a shopping bag from so he could take the rice in his plate back home for his mother. The child and his innocent answer made us more aware of the situation of the people living there and how important it is that these children get a meal for their growth. Luckily we had enough food and he was given some for his mother. The smiles on the children’s faces was one of the best things of the day. Most of the children do not get enough to eat at their homes. Some saved the fruit for their parents, others kept juice packs in their bags to take back home. The right choice of foods right from childhood will help them lead a healthy and happy life. The children are looking forward to another food day, in the coming days.
